Having a baby is one of life’s joys, but the residual weight gain is not then you need weight loss after pregnancy. If you are a new mom, then you are thrilled with your bundle of joy. But you’re tired. And you may be unhappy with your body. And worse? You’re tired of seeing celebrity moms sporting bikinis weeks after giving birth.

The fact is that the ideal put forth by these pictures of skinny new mom celebrities is not realistic. And they don’t show all of the people involved to get the celebrity looking like that. You don’t have personal trainers and private chefs. You don’t have a team of doctors and nutritionists tailoring your world to the best way for weight loss after pregnancy. And most importantly, you don’t have photoshop either to make you look perfect.

That’s all right. You just need to take steps to start weight loss after pregnancy in a reasonable way. It will take time, but that’s all right. Healthy weight loss always does.

Weight loss after pregnancy, here’s how to get started:

Ask for help

First step for weight loss after pregnancy is you need time to yourself. You don’t get much of that as a new mom. You need time to shop for healthy foods and get your exercise in. So enlist your friends and family for babysitting.

Enlist the help of your husband or partner to pick up the healthy food at the grocery store. See if grandma will hold the baby and play with her while you workout. Or maybe you can find a fitness center with a play room. Many have them now.

Whatever resources are available to you, make use of them.

Feed your body well

With all the changes and stress, you may be craving junk food. Don’t give in. Eat several small meals over the course of the day. Choose low-fat dairy, whole grains, high-fiber fruits, green veggies, and lean meats.

If you are breastfeeding, you can’t cut calories. And you’ll need more water.

Start moving around

You may be so sleep deprived that even waking up is a struggle. But you need the cardio not just to lose weight, but to be healthy for your family. If a gym just isn’t possible, the gardening during your infant’s nap is a start. Got a stroller? Push baby around the neighborhood.

If you can, spend at least a half hour five days a week exercising. You will have more energy and lose weight. Yoga can help with your stress. And less stress means more weight loss! There is even yoga to help you wake up and yoga to help you wind down before bed.

Keep your energy up

You need your sleep. That can be challenging if your baby doesn’t sleep. If that’s a problem, then ask for help. Nap during the day. Nap while the baby naps.

Even losing a couple hours sleep a night impacts your healing time, ability to focus, and your immune system. Most folks are sleep deprived and new moms fall into that category!

You can’t take care of other people if you aren’t taking care of yourself. Diet, rest, stress relief, and exercise will help weight loss after pregnancy .
